As a result of the weather predictions in the Overberg region and in keeping with safety protocols, the start of the 2021 edition of the Old Mutual Wealth Double Century will be delayed by one hour. This is after considering the predicted rainfall patterns and to allow for additional light as we traverse the N2 in the early part of the event. We encourage all cyclists to dress appropriately for what is expected to be a wet and windy day.
Teams are to add one hour to their current start time and present themselves at the show grounds in accordance with this revised start.
We are anticipating strong winds for the duration of the event around the entire route and we would urge all cyclists to exercise caution on all major descents. Furthermore, while the temptation to ride in large pelotons may be enticing, we would ask that teams refrain from this and ride as individual team units as prescribed by the event rules. We are on public roads that, for the most part, do not have road closure and we need to ensure that all riders keep as far left as possible, especially with the reduced visibility inclement weather brings, and to allow faster teams to move through safely.
Faster teams are to ensure that before they overtake slower teams that it is safe to do so for all road users.
As a result of road works shortly after the Bonnievale Team Support Zone, we will be extending the neutral zone by a further 2.4km, until cyclists have passed through the small construction area SLOWLY, after which racing can commence. An additional 10 minutes will be allocated to the neutral time for this section. Timing mats will be positioned at the end of the extended neutral zone.
